Job Description:
The General Accounting Specialist performs advanced and complex accounting tasks involving the maintenance of financial records and processing of related data; prepares cash receipts, reconciles accounts, processes student accounts, posts ledgers; maintains journal entries; prepares checks; and submits regular and specialized reports. Reports to Coordinator, General Accounting.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains accounts payable ledgers, including examining invoices, checks, vouchers, and other documents for accuracy and makes appropriate calculations.
- Audits receiving reports and invoices for accuracy and completeness; compiles data for the payment of invoices; inputs information into computer terminals and maintains necessary related records.
- Compiles various financial statements and reports involving considerable arithmetical computations; reconciles accounts with computer statements; makes adjusting entries in journal and ledgers according to standard procedures and guidelines.
- Monthly reconciliation and review of outstanding purchase orders.
- Reconciles and posts cash receipts and check requisitions.
- Transmits ACH files for Payroll and General Accounting.
- Daily balancing of cash flow and reconciling discrepancies.
- Prepares journal entries and budget amendments, transfers funds, and maintains a variety of related records.
- Prints and audits checks and ACH payments.
- Investigates invoice discrepancies, prepares check requisitions for payments, and processes payments.
- Back up for wire transmittals.
- Assists with Bank Mobile return postings and file transmittals.
- Assists with processing check requisitions and purchase requisitions.
- Daily balancing of Master Account file.
- Reviews work of support staff; assists in the training of departmental and student employees; makes work assignments.
- Prepares a variety of accounting reports and analyses as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate’s degree or appropriate work experience on a year-to-year basis may be substituted for the college degree requirement, and two years of full-time bookkeeping or accounting experience are required. College coursework beyond the associate’s degree in accounting or business may substitute for experience requirements. Successful results of a criminal background check are required, or graduation from high school or GED equivalency and four years of full-time bookkeeping or accounting experience are required. Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of § 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations. Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment.
ANNUAL SALARY: $32,175.00
